Green Mountain Operation (Operação Montanha Verde) promises to plant 21,000 trees in the Algarve on 23 November.

After the success of the 2016 and 2017 editions, in which 5,000 trees were planted in the municipality of Silves and 10,600 trees in the municipality of Silves and Loulé, the Green Mountain Operation organization plans on doubling the 2017 result, thus reaching the 21 000 trees planted. To this end, Zoomarine, the entity responsible for organizing and coordinating the Green Mountain Operation initiative, decided that this year they would focus there planting-trees efforts on four counties: Silves, Loulé, Portimão and Monchique.

Callum Tyrie, a qualified Tree Surgeon says, trees not only give us oxygen to breath but also take harmful gases out of the air, this project by Zoomarine will help the local population as well as the rest of the world.

Zoomarine tree planting campaign

The first edition of the Green Mountain Operation, in 2016, was a response by Zoomarine and the Together We Protect campaign against the fires in Monchique that devastated much of the local fauna and flora that year. To help the environment recover, it is necessary to adopt an environmental strategy that involves investing in species that will adapt well to the terrain and the microclimate of the Algarve.
