Portugal was named The World Top Golf Destination and World`s Best New Golf Course for the West Cliffs Golf Links.

Portugal is a Golf destination for many years and welcomes every year 420,000 golfers from all over the world to its 90 golf courses and with most of them situated in the Algarve this is certainly a win for the Algarve as well.

The Algarve is one of Europe`s premier holiday destinations, drawing hundreds of thousands of golfers to its fairways all year round. The Algarve has more than 40 courses.

With the West Cliffs opening just a few months ago it has already become a Golf Environment Organisation (GEO) Certified® Development and the highest new entry at number 25 in a 2017 ranking list of the ‘Top 100 Courses in Continental Europe’.

Chris Frost, the World Golf Awards Managing Director, said: “It has been an honour to recognise so many world-class organisations here this evening and I offer my sincere congratulations to all our winners.”

On a national front for Portugal, the Algarve won the awards for the best golf course and best hotel. The Quinta do Lago South Course won Portugal’s best course, while the Hilton Vilamoura as Cascatas Golf Resort & Spa was awarded Portugal’s Best Golf Hotel 2017.
