Albufeira is one of the most popular holiday destinations in the Algarve and it is easy to see why, with so many things to do in Albufeira for all ages and budgets.

There are three distinct different areas of Albufeira, with these being the old town, new town and the marina and each offers different things to do in Albufeira.

Albufeira marina is bright and colourful and home to a good selection of restaurants, bars and shops as well as being the place to go for boat trips in Albufeira.  Discover the beautiful Algarve coastline or go looking for dolphins in the wild during one of the many exciting boat trips available from Albufeira marina throughout the year.

In the old town of Albufeira you are met with winding cobbled streets, pretty squares and lots of little boutique shops, while in the new town you will find plenty of things to do in Albufeira, especially for those who are looking for exciting night life thanks to the “Strip” where there are lots of bars with live entertainment, special promotions and great deals.

There are a good choice of beaches locally offering things to do in Albufeira and from here you can take part in water sports, set out on a pedalo or just relax in the sunshine.

For family fun the Zoomarine attraction is just down the road in Guia while the Fiesa sand sculpture exhibition is also very close by.

Anyone looking to do a spot of shopping will be pleased to know that the Algarve Shopping centre is only a short drive away and offers a good selection of well-known shops as well as a large food court area and a multiplex cinema, an ideal choice for a cloudy day in the Algarve.

Albufeira is in the central Algarve, located only a short drive from Faro airport and close to major rail and road links, which means that even if the huge amount of things to do in Albufeira don’t appeal to you, it is really easy to travel to any other part of the Algarve, Portugal or beyond.

Albufeira Marina

Albufeira Marina is a recently developed area only a short distance away from the main hustle and bustle of Albufeira itself.

Albuferia is perhaps one of the most well-known destinations in the Algarve thanks to it offering a wide variety of accommodation choices, with everything from camping to five star luxury, and the Albufeira Marina was developed to complement the existing facilities of the destination.

You cannot miss the Albufeira Marina, mainly due to its very distinctive paint job, with all the blocks of the building painted in different candy colours and creating an effect that you will either love or hate, but one that you certainly won’t forget in a hurry!

Albufeira Marina is located to the west of the main part of Albufeira and can be accessed by public transport, taxi, car or by walking, depending on how far away you are staying.  If you are taking a car then be sure to pay attention to the parking restrictions and it is usually best to head straight for the underground car park.

For most people, Albufeira Marina is the place to go to get on-board a boat trip along the coast, with many leaving from the safe and calm waters of the marina before heading out to explore the caves or to search for dolphins, however the marina is also a lovely place to come for a few hours with family and friends.

If you have some time spare, either before or after a boat trip from Albufeira Marina or are looking to discover a new area of Albufeira, then head down to the marina where you can soak up some sunshine in one of the many cafes, enjoy a meal in one of the restaurants or browse the shops dotted along the marina front and the road directly behind.

Albufeira Marina also plays host to large scale events, and over the years there have been open air concerts, including from the acclaimed jazz singer Diana Krall, and even summer parties with top DJs such as Armin van Buuren.

While you don’t have to be a boat owner to enjoy the Albufeira Marina, if you do have your own vessel then the marina also offers a number of top class facilities and has been awarded with the five anchor rating of excellence.

Albufeira Marina may not be as big as its neighbour in Vilamoura but it has its own special sense of charm thanks to little touches, such as the brightly coloured dolphin statues dotted about or the fact that you can enjoy a quick lap or two around the go kart track while friends have cocktails overlooking the waters – and all in one place.

Albufeira Marina offers an alternative side to Albufeira and is a bright, cheery and welcoming place to spend time with family and friends.
